Welcome to the sunny shores of La Ventana Bay. Located on the Sea of Cortez, Baja California Sur, Mexico, just 40 minutes from La Paz International airport or 2.5 hours from Los Cabos International airport. We began as a small Mexican fishing village set in the backdrop of a majestic desert landscape. Tall sierra mountains form our western vistas and turquoise ocean views along an endless sandy beach run along the east. La Ventana and El Sargento are quaint little villages filled with friendly people and dusty dirt roads. There are still no bank machines or large grocery stores here. Credit cards are only accepted at the resorts and our Gas Station. When travelling here come prepared with some pesos. The city of La Paz is very close if you want to stock up on supplies, but your holiday grocery needs can also be easily filled at our local stores. They are small but make every effort to provide for your needs, with special local items as well. Choose from a number of established local restaurants here. Whether you are craving a home style authentic Mexican meal, a local gourmet hot dog stand (very popular) or something a little more formal with a nice bottle of wine or margaritas, you can find it right here. Originally a tourist destination for fisherman in search of trophy sized fish from the nearby island of Cerralvo, the area continues to attract sport fisherman and divers. La Ventana is now a world class destination for kiteboarding and windsurfing. The strong El Nortes (north winds) blow on average 3-4 days a week and the steady thermals keep the wind reliable for these enthusiasts. The winds are usually best from mid October to late April, after which time the fishing enters it’s best season. The “L” shaped sandy bay of La Ventana provides an excellent area for learning to kite or sail and is ideal for all levels of experience. Stand up paddle boarding is another activity with huge local appeal. Along with kayaks and snorkelers they enjoy the flat morning calm of most days. Many other activities are here on your doorstep – scuba diving, hiking, mountain biking, and miles of open beach to walk on and just enjoy. Take a scenic drive to one of the nearby towns, there is plenty to explore. Get to know the friendly locals and practice your Spanish!
